Michael joined Hanging Heaton Golf Club because of the extremely welcoming and friendly atmosphere. He has not regretted that decision for one moment and feels privileged to have been selected by as the Club Captain for 2024. His aim this year is to continue the excellent work of the previous Captains to make the Club the very best it can be and the best place to play golf in West Yorkshire.

Michael and his vice-Captain, Tim Hetherington, will work closely with the new Club President, Committee members, fellow Captains, and the new Club Professional to ensure golf at Hanging Heaton remains enjoyable and rewarding.

In recent years the Greens Team, Greens Committee and a team of loyal and dedicated volunteers have worked hard to improve the course and we are starting to see the fruits of all their hard work and professionalism, which he and Tim will work hard to support.

In addition, he will actively support the House Committee who have continued to make positive changes to the Clubhouse and Member facilities, and the Social Committee who have continued to produce a brilliant Social Calendar, which together ensures that the Club continues to be a place that is not only a great place to play golf, but also a great place to enjoy socially.

It is this harmony between a great place to play golf and a great place to socialise that will form the backbone to the Club’s ambitions to increase ladies, junior, and general membership. Michael and Tim will work hard to support the ongoing work of the Recruitment and Retention Committee to ensure that Hanging Heaton continues its proud 102-year history for generations to come.

Michael’s charity for 2024 is in support of Breast Cancer research and he hopes all Members and Guests will support his ambition to raise money for this wonderful and essential cause.
