The scale of the golf course and the amount of wildlife and landscape features it supports, as well as the resources consumed, mean that we have a considerable environmental responsibility as stewards of the land.
At HHGC we are committed to continuous improvement to deliver a safer and diverse ecology within the golf course. Trees are a major contributor to keeping the equilibrium. With several trees being overly mature and in parts dangerous we had to remove 47 earlier in the year.
In difficult financial times we built a relationship with the Woodland Trust, gaining a contract for 420 trees, varieties including Oak, Silver & Downy Birches, Rowan, Hazel, Cherries, Crab Apples, Hawthorn, Blackthorn & Dogwood. It is very much hoped that this relationship will continue in the coming years.
We have also purchased a further 300 Hedge variety trees to support the security of the course perimeter and wildlife.
The plantations that will hopefully thrive will also deliver in their smallest way a challenge to global warming, whilst helping reduce our carbon footprint and over time add to the challenge of the golf course.
All 720 trees have been planted with the voluntary support of many of our members. A huge thank you goes out to all those who helped. Below are just a few of those involved.
